BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVE

People with chronic low back pain (LBP) may develop fear of lumbar movement which can negatively affect their physical function. General kinesiophobia assessments may be poor measures of specific fears related to lower back movement.

This study measured trunk kinematics during forward bending in individuals with chronic LBP, and their correlation with: (1) general kinesiophobia; and (2) fear of forward bending.

People with chronic low back pain may develop fear of lumbar movement which can negatively affect their physical function.
bulb
Clinicians should treat fear of movement with specificity as fears related to forward bending were more associated with trunk kinematics than measures of general kinesiophobia.

METHODS

  • Fifty-one people with chronic LBP participated in the study.
