Key Points
- Injection therapy still has little evidence to support its use in the management of tennis elbow.

BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVE
Lateral elbow tendinopathy (LET) or tennis elbow is a common painful condition that limits upper limb function (1). In long standing cases, injection therapy may be recommended as a second line treatment, if symptoms persist following a course of appropriate physiotherapy. Various forms of injection therapy have been proposed, with different mechanisms of action, but their comparative efficacy remains unclear.
The aim of this study was to compare the clinical efficacy of three different injection therapies: Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP), corticosteroid (CS) and hyaluronic acid (HA) against a placebo injection of saline.
Lateral elbow tendinopathy (LET) or tennis elbow is a common painful condition that limits upper limb function.
National treatment guidelines recommend that corticosteroid injections have no place in the management of lateral elbow tendinopathy.
METHODS
- This study was a single centre, double blinded prospective randomized controlled trail, and reported according to CONSORT guidelines, which are used in parallel group trials.
